TROPICAL FISH PROLOG

It is worth looking at the reasons why people who otherwise cannot be bothered with pets, become such enthusiastic fish fanciers. Just like we know, fish live in watertanks (aquarium). They never hide under couch and chewing slippers, they don’t make a noise, and they never scratch wall or furniture. What is it, that fishes have that no other animals have? I think they are the only living creatures which can be happily confined in a small space which are also extremely decorative and seldom messy. Fishes, if they kept properly, do not even splash.
Watching the silent ballet of fishes changing shape and colours in their watertanks, there is the dignified sway of angel fish, the hurry scurry of the scavenging cats, and the dart and swivel of the neons and the guppies. Each and every kind of fish has its own distinctive movement.
All we have do to enjoy this kind of spectacular private water ballet is to sprinkle a little food into the watertanks every day (and sometimes we forget or neglect to do even that) and all of those fishes live happily. As a great aquarist once remarked, “A hungry fish is a healthy fish”. There is no such a great mystery about keeping fishes, if one goes about it sensibly, there need be no great difficulties, and that they do not need continual attention.
